what’s in store for the next event?

At the upcoming IACDE 3D Summit on the 17th of November we will take you back to the decade of the 90’s.

Colleen Hill, the curator of costume and accessories at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (MFIT), will open up our event with a talk on “Opposing Excess: Minimalism and Grunge in 1990s Fashion”. It will put a focus on the decade’s two most prominent styles that appeared to be especially at odds and had one important similarity: both were perceived as a distinct reaction to the opulence of 1980s fashion.

We will launch garment patterns and digital assets such as digital fabrics, accessories, and graphics, all connected to our six assignment themes:

  • Streetwear/Hip Hop
  • Sporty/Tracksuit
  • Alternative/Grunge
  • Slip Dresses
  • Minimalism
  • Powersuits

Registration

These events are free of charge for anyone to join and if you did not register yet, you can do so here.

You can read more about our assignment categories here. Further below you can find more information about our digital assets, supported 3D software systems and free trial licenses.

Workshops

Together with our valued Diamond Sponsors Browzwear, Chargeurs PCC, Metail, and Style3D, we will host short live webinars showing digital workflows related to their products and we will additionally present the workshop agenda for the four months between our events.

We are sure these workshops will enable you to create awesome assignments in one or several of the software packages on time for our assignment deadline for April 2025.

Opposing Excess: Minimalism and Grunge in 1990s Fashion by colleen hill

Fashion of the 1990s was defined by a series of fast-changing and seemingly disparate trends. Two of the decade’s most prominent styles—minimalism and grunge—appeared to be especially at odds. Yet they had one important similarity: both were perceived as a distinct reaction to the opulence of 1980s fashion. This talk will explore the influence of these key trends, tracing their origins, the designers who brought them to the forefront, and their lasting impact on fashion.

Colleen Hill is curator of costume and accessories at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (MFIT). She holds an MA in Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, Museum Practice from FIT, and she is currently a PhD candidate at London College of Fashion. Since joining MFIT in 2006, Colleen has curated sixteen exhibitions, including Shoes: Anatomy, Identity, Magic (2022), Reinvention and Restlessness: Fashion in the Nineties (2021), Paris Refashioned, 1957-1968 (2017), and Fairy Tale Fashion (2016). She has authored or co-authored eight books on fashion and has contributed to numerous other publications.
